Today the House Republican Caucus declared its support for a special legislative session that would supply quick, bold, and bipartisan action to fortify Hawaii's economy in the aftermath of the worst attack on Americans in our country's history.
"It is important we convene to pass meaningful legislation that will keep our economy going," said House Republican Leader Galen Fox. "Republicans are looking at five areas of concern we could address with specific pieces of legislation."
The House Republicans said that in addition to the suggestions from the Governor's meeting, they would like the special session to act to:
Assist the working people of Hawaii by eliminating the tax on food;
Instill consumer confidence with a retail tax holiday by enacting a one-week moratorium of the General Excise Tax around early November;
Stimulate the economy by passing an immediate tax credit for new construction;
Encourage future investment in Hawaii by eliminating the Capital Gains Tax, and;
Prepare for potential disasters by creating an Emergency Plan.
The House Republicans support bold and decisive measures to save our economy. "It is important for all of us to unite together to protect our community," said Fox. "All House Republicans look forward to working, in a bipartisan fashion, with the Governor, business leaders, and the community to defend and strengthen Hawaii's economic future."
