Your Committee on Education, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 20, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:
hawaii teacher standards board
ANNETTE A. NISHIKAWA, for a term to expire June 30, 2004;
begs leave to report as follows:
Your Committee received testimony in support of the nomination from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, Chairperson of the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board, HGEA/AFSCME, Local 152, and the Vice-Principal and Curriculum Coordinator of Kapolei Middle School.
Annette A. Nishikawa holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Hawaii, and teacher and school administrator certifications from the State of Hawaii. Ms. Nishikawa is Principal of Waianae Intermediate School, a post she has held since 1995, and the Waianae Complex Principals Chairperson. Prior to 1995, the nominee taught at several schools at the intermediate and high school levels and was Vice-Principal of Waianae Intermediate School. Additionally, Ms. Nishikawa was a Kapolei Outstanding Achievement Award in Education nominee for three years and is listed in the International Who's Who of Professional Educators.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Education that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, character, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.
