RESOLUTION
HONORING THE MEMORY OF HEATHER HO AND EXTENDING HEARTFELT SYMPATHY AND CONDOLENCES TO HER FAMILY.
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, Hawaii, along with the rest of the nation, watched in horror as terrorism struck at the heart of the United States, directly affecting our fellow citizens in Washington, D.C., New York, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, these evil and cowardly acts of terror resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in the countryside of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the people killed in these acts were ordinary citizens going about their daily activities in their offices, working on aircraft in the skies above, or traveling across our country; and
WHEREAS, the loss of life due to these horrendous acts of cowardice not only affected the loved ones of those killed, but also millions of other Americans in a myriad of ways; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii, directly affected by the loss of five of its own people, shared in the grief and sorrow felt throughout the nation; and
WHEREAS, Heather Ho, a former Manoa resident and graduate of Punahou School, was an ambitious pastry chef who worked at the esteemed Windows on the World Restaurant at the World Trade Center; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Boston University with a degree in hotel and food management, she graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, and was employed by many celebrated Manhattan restaurants such as JoJo, Gramercy Tavern, the Screening Room, and Clementine; and
WHEREAS, Heather was one of the up-and-coming pastry chefs in the culinary world and was widely admired by her peers for taking fresh, new approaches to traditional recipes; and
WHEREAS, Heather will be deeply and forever missed by her family, friends, peers, and the culinary world; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Third Special Session of 2001, the House of Representatives concurring, that this body honors the memory of Heather Ho and extends its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to her family.
