TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2001

THIRD SPECIAL SESSION

STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY, REGRET, AND CONDOLENCES FOR THE TRAGIC LOSS OF LIFE SUFFERED IN NEW YORK, VIRGINIA, AND PENNSYLVANIA ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2001.

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, the United States was the victim of an unconscionable attack by terrorists who hijacked and destroyed four commercial aircraft, crashing two planes into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into the Pentagon in Virginia, and one plane in rural Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, thousands of Americans and citizens of many other countries, including the passengers and crew of the planes, occupants of the targeted buildings, rescue workers, and innocent bystanders were killed during the horrible and tragic events of that day; and

WHEREAS, these terrorist acts were the worst our country has ever experienced, and have left many thousands of children without parents, parents without children, wives without husbands, husbands without wives, and people throughout the world without their friends and loved ones; and

WHEREAS, no part of the country or the world has been left unaffected by this tragedy, as these crimes were truly perpetrated against all of humanity, and no distance is great enough to diminish the anguish and horror felt by all people who treasure life; and

WHEREAS, Hawaii has mourned with the rest of the country as we too suffered the loss of many current and former residents, as well as countless other friends and family members; and

WHEREAS, despite the immense suffering, and the irreplacable loss of life, liberty, and innocence America has endured, our citizens have displayed courage, perseverance, and an intense determination to help the victims of these attacks, bring those responsible to justice, and rebuild a greater and stronger union; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Third Special Session of 2001, the Senate concurring, that this body conveys its deepest sympathy, regret, and condolences to all those who have been terribly and forever hurt by the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body pledges its full support of all relief efforts being conducted by brave and generous people throughout the country and world; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor of New York, Speaker of the New York General Assembly, Majority Leader of the New York Senate, Governor of Pennsylvania, Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, President Pro Tempore of the Pennsylvania Senate, Governor of Virginia, Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, and President Pro Tempore of the Virginia Senate.
