In 2025, the Hawaii State Energy Office (HSEO) published the Alternative Fuels, Repowering, and Energy Transition Study and the analysis in the report led to the HSEO’s endorsement of the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a bridge fuel in the State.

 

The purpose of this informational briefing is to receive a briefing from the HSEO on its Alternative Fuels Report and decision to support the use of LNG, and to hear from independent third-party experts about their assessment of the report and the viability of using LNG as a bridge fuel in the State, and other related issues.
