Madame:

 

     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred S.B. No. 2577, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO SPORTS TOURISM,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to:

 

     (1)  Require the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism to conduct a study of the potential economic benefits and costs of sports tourism in the State;

 

     (2)  Require a report to the Legislature; and

 

     (3)  Require funds appropriated to the Hawaii Tourism Authority in the Supplemental Executive Budget to be expended by the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism for the study.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority; Retail Merchants of Hawaii; Hawaiʻi Bicycling League; Maui Chamber of Commerce; and one individual.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 2577, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
