COM. REP. NO. 1599-26
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2026
RE: H.C.R. No. 40
Honorable Nadine K. Nakamura
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirty-Third State Legislature
Regular Session of 2026
State of Hawaii
Madame:
Your Committee on Public Safety, to which was referred H.C.R. No. 40 entitled:
"HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO CONVENE A WORKING GROUP TO DEVELOP RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A STATE OF HAWAII COMMEMORATIVE VIETNAM VETERANS MEDAL,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to request the Department of Defense to convene a working group to develop recommendations for a State of Hawaii commemorative Vietnam Veterans Medal.
Your Committee finds that Hawaii has a long and proud history of military service to the United States, from the American Civil War to World War One, World War Two, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War and through the present day. Your Committee further finds that the State has a deep connection to the Vietnam War, with over two hundred seventy-five local servicemembers memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. A Vietnam Veterans Medal would further honor individual veterans and reinforce the State's commitment to honoring the sacrifices of those who served.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Public Safety that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of H.C.R. No. 40 and recommends that it be referred to your Committee on Finance.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Public Safety,
