Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 2387, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO WORKERS' COMPENSATION MEDICAL BENEFITS,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to:

(1) Expand workers' compensation medical benefits for firefighters by broadening the list of covered cancers and diseases; and

(2) Specify that employers may deny coverage only if they prove the cancer or disease was not associated with firefighting duties.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations; Disability and Communication Access Board; Hawaii Fire Fighters Association, Local 1463, IAFF, AFL-CIO; and two individuals.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 2387, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
