Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred H.B. No. 2340, H.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to make an emergency appropriation for fiscal year 2025-2026 to the University of Hawaii to expand and sustain the Maui Wildfire Exposure Study and Maui Health Registry.

Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa; one member of the Maui County Council; Hawaiʻi Public Health Association; Hawaiʻi Community Health; Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hawaiʻi; American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network; ʻAhahui o nā Kauka; Climate Change and Health Working Group; Roots Reborn; Hawaii Medical Association; and numerous individuals.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 2340, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
