Honorable Nadine K. Nakamura

Speaker, House of Representatives

Thirty-Third State Legislature

Regular Session of 2026

State of Hawaii

Madame:

Your Committee on Culture & Arts, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 22, S.D. 1, entitled:

"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RESTORATION OF AHUʻENA HEIAU AND AFFIRMING ITS UNPARALLELED ROLE IN THE SPIRITUAL, POLITICAL, AND CULTURAL HISTORY OF THE STATE,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to recognize the fiftieth anniversary of the restoration of Ahuʻena Heiau and affirm its unparalleled role in the spiritual, political, and cultural history of the State.

Your Committee did not receive any written testimony on this measure.

Your Committee finds that Ahuʻena Heiau is a site of unparalleled importance to the history of the Hawaiian Kingdom, representing a center of governance and culture.  However, the preservation of such a foundational landmark requires sustained commitment and public recognition.  This measure commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the successful community-led restoration of Ahuʻena Heiau, a significant achievement in historic preservation that further perpetuates Hawaii's culture.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Culture & Arts that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 22, S.D. 1, and recommends that it be referred to your Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Culture & Arts,
