     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred S.B. No. 3245, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to require the Department of Human Services to adjust the minimum certification periods for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits households, participate in the Elderly Simplified Application Project to simplify eligibility determinations for eligible households, and report to the Legislature.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the State Council on Developmental Disabilities; Office of Climate Change, Sustainability, and Resiliency of the City and County of Honolulu; Aloha United Way; Agriculture Stewardship Hawaiʻi; Hawaiʻi Hunger Action Network; Hawaiʻi Public Health Institute; Healthy Eating, Active Living Coalition; Aloha Independent Living Hawaii; Hawaiʻi Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice; AARP Hawaiʻi; AlohaCare; and numerous individuals.  Your Committee received comments on this measure from the Department of Human Services.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 3245, S.D. 1, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
