A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to the state archives.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
The legislature further finds that the facilities of the state archives division are dated and at capacity. The legislature believes that the state archives division needs a new, state of the art facility with more space for processing, conserving, and storing its current and future collections and for increased programming and researcher support.
Accordingly, the purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for the state archives to begin the planning processes for a new facility with sufficient space to accommodate current and future needs.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $4,000,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2026-2027 for the planning, designing, environmental studies, site evaluation and selection studies, and permitting conducted relative to a new facility for the state archives.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of accounting and general services for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2026.
