A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to licensure.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
"§451A- Temporary
license. (a) The
director may issue a temporary license to engage in the practice of dealing and
fitting of hearing aids to qualified individuals in a structured training
program.
(b)
The director shall establish educational and training standards with
which a person applying for temporary licensure under this section shall comply;
provided that these standards shall allow for a student enrolled in grades nine
through twelve to qualify for temporary licensure under this section. The director shall establish requirements for
eligible structured training programs.
(c)
The applicant shall be enrolled in a structured training program
on the date of application. The
applicant shall file a complete application, as prescribed by the director, and
pay all required fees. A temporary
license shall be issued only once to each person.
(d) A temporary license under this section shall
authorize the person to whom the license is issued to engage in the practice of
dealing and fitting of hearing aids to the extent as determined by the
director. The director shall establish supervision
requirements, limitations on scope and duration of practice, and other
conditions applicable to temporary licensure under this section.
(e) If any person who is
issued a temporary license pursuant to this section fails to apply for,
or to take, the examination for licensure pursuant to section 451A-6 scheduled
by the director immediately following the person's
graduation from high school, fails to pass the examination, or otherwise
fails to receive licensure under section 451A-2, all privileges under
this section shall automatically cease upon written notification sent to the
applicant by the director.
(f) For the purposes of this section,
"structured training program" means a director-approved training
program with curriculum and skill development aligned with the education,
experience, and examination requirements for full licensure under section
451A-2."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
