RELATING TO THE WORKS OF ART SPECIAL FUND.

Appropriates funds for the purpose of engaging the community and developing plans for a potential future memorial, monument, or other appropriate means to properly honor and respectfully recognize the memory of those who lost their lives or were impacted by the August 2023 Maui wildfires. (Proposed SD1)

RELATING TO CULTURE AND ARTS.

Establishes the Hawaii Leadership Awards Program to honor individuals who have made considerable and outstanding contributions to Hawaii and serve as inspirations to others.

RELATING TO CULTURE AND THE ARTS.

Requires that the State of Hawaii Museum of Natural and Cultural History and the State of Hawaii Museum of Monarchy History boards of directors include two ex officio, voting members, to be selected from certain state agencies.  Requires the State of Hawaii Museum of Natural and Cultural History to submit an annual report to the Legislature.  Establishes standards and conditions that the State of Hawaii Museum of Natural and Cultural History must meet to receive state funds.

RELATING TO STATE GESTURE.

Adopts, establishes, and designates the shaka as the official gesture of the State.

RELATING TO STATE HOLIDAYS.

Designates the day of the second new moon after the winter solstice of every year as the Lunar New Year.  Establishes the Lunar New Year as a state holiday.

·         The number of oral testifiers and/or time allotted to each testifier may be limited by the Chair when necessary to adhere to the committee hearing schedule. We may not be able to accommodate everyone who requests to testify orally.

·         Testifiers for this hearing will be limited to 1 minute each.
