A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to school athletics.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to part II, subpart C, to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§302A-    School athletic events; student admission; ticketing requirements; price schedule.  (a)  No public high school student shall be required to pay an admission fee for any school athletic event held at the school in which the student is enrolled; provided that the student produces a valid school identification card.

     (b)  The department shall direct all public high schools to offer the option to purchase a physical ticket for admission to any school athletic event, which shall not be subject to any additional fees or service charges.

     (c)  The department shall direct all public high schools to restrict admission fees to not more than $           per ticket after            tickets have been purchased for each school athletic event."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.

Description:

Requires the Department of Education to permit all public high school students with a valid school identification card to attend school athletic events on their home campus free of charge.  Requires all public high schools to offer physical ticket sales to each school athletic event without additional fees.  Establishes a cap on ticket prices after a certain number of tickets have been sold for each school athletic event.
