     Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred S.B. No. 2787, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, entitled:

 

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO IMMIGRATION,"

 

begs leave to report as follows:

 

     The purpose of this measure is to establish the Immigration Services and Access Unit within the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations' Office of Community Services and appropriate funds for the unit and positions.

 

     Your Committee received testimony in support of this measure from the Hawaiʻi Coalition for Immigrant Rights; The Legal Clinic; Hawaii Friends of Civil Rights; Hawaiʻi Alliance for Progressive Action; Hawaiʻi Children's Action Network Speaks!; American Immigration Council; Americans for Democratic Action - Hawaiʻi; Hawaiʻi Alliance of Pacific Islanders; and seven individuals.  Your Committee received testimony in opposition to this measure from the Hawaii Federation of Republican Women and numerous individuals.  Your Committee received comments on this measure from the Office of Community Services and Office of Language Access.

 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 2787, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
