The purpose of this briefing is to provide updates on the progress and status of the implementation of Act 26 (SLH 2020) requiring the diversion of defendants charged with a petty misdemeanor not involving violence, the Assisted Community Treatment law, and any recommendations related to the implementation of these statutes.

 

The following individuals or representatives have been invited to participate and provide comments:

 

1. The Honorable Shirley M. Kawamura, Circuit Court Judge of the First Circuit, Criminal Administrative Judge, Deputy Chief Judge

          2. The Honorable Kenneth J. Shimozono, District Court Judge of the First Circuit

          3. The Honorable Trish K. Morikawa, Circuit Court Judge of the First Circuit

          4. The Honorable Matthew J. Viola, Circuit Court Judge of the First Circuit, Senior Family Court Judge

          5. Amy Curtis, Ph.D., Chief Administrator, Adult Mental Health Division, Hawaii State Department of Health

          6. Dr. Michael Champion, MD, Medical Director, Hawaii Department of Health

 

No public testimony will be accepted.
