COM. REP. NO. 844
Honolulu, Hawaii
, 2023
RE: H.B. No. 884
H.D. 1
Honorable Scott K. Saiki
Speaker, House of Representatives
Thirty-Second State Legislature
Regular Session of 2023
State of Hawaii
Sir:
Your Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce, to which was referred H.B. No. 884, H.D. 1, entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO TRAVELING TEAM PHYSICIANS,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to provide an exemption from state licensure requirements for out-of-state traveling team physicians who accompany a sports team to Hawaii, under certain conditions.
Your Committee finds
that athletes who compete in intercollegiate or professional leagues often
travel across state lines to attend tournaments, exhibition games, and other
types of competitions. Ideally, the team
physician and other health care professionals travel with the team to provide
immediate care when needed. Your
Committee further finds that Hawaii is one of only a few states that do not
already have a provision allowing exemptions for traveling physicians working
in association with a particular sports team.
This measure provides the necessary exemption allowing for team
physicians to provide continuity of care by an out-of-state physician who
accompanies a sports team to a sporting event in Hawaii.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No. 884, H.D. 1, and recommends that it pass Third Reading.
Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Consumer Protection & Commerce,
