SENATE RESOLUTION

 

 

Requesting the department of transportation to create a second access point from whitmore village via saipan road to kamehameha highway to alleviate traffic on whitmore avenue.

 

 


     WHEREAS, according to United States Census data, the population of Whitmore Village has increased from 4,057 in 2000 to 4,887 in 2020; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State purchased agricultural lands surrounding Whitmore Village and Wahiawa to increase food production; and

 

     WHEREAS, the State intends to build facilities in Whitmore Village that may increase vehicular traffic in the area resulting from increased food production and food processing operations; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific and National Security Agency Hawaii are also located in Whitmore Village; and

 

     WHEREAS, commuters from the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific and National Security Agency Hawaii use Whitmore Avenue to exit Whitmore Village, creating additional traffic in the Whitmore Village area; and

 

     WHEREAS, presently, there is only one ingress and egress from Whitmore Village to Kamehameha Highway; and

 

     WHEREAS, to alleviate traffic congestion in Whitmore Village, a second access point in the community may provide additional relief and traffic mitigation for those who work and reside in Whitmore Village; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2023, that the Department of Transportation is requested to create a second access point from Whitmore Village via Saipan Road to Kamehameha Highway to alleviate traffic on Whitmore Avenue; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Transportation.
