SENATE RESOLUTION
urging the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation of the Department of Land and Natural Resources and the County of Maui to facilitate a state and county partnership for the management of all small boat harbors located on the island of Maui.
WHEREAS, the small boat harbors on the island of Maui are critical for recreation, commerce, and transportation; and
WHEREAS, Maui's small boat harbors have fallen into disarray and require significant repairs and regular maintenance; and
WHEREAS, Maui's small boat harbors also lack adequate sanitation services; and
WHEREAS, the revenue derived from Maui's small boat harbors is used on projects throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, the County of Maui possesses additional revenues that could be allocated to the small boat harbors; and
WHEREAS, a state-county partnership for the management of Maui's small boat harbors could ensure that the small boat harbors are adequately repaired and maintained; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2023, that the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation of the Department of Land and Natural Resources and the County of Maui are urged to facilitate a state and county partnership for the management of all small boat harbors located on the island of Maui; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation and the County of Maui are also requested to identify potential partnerships using private sources of funding; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Administrator of the Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation of the Department of Land and Natural Resources, each member of the Maui County Council, and the Mayor of the County of Maui.
