A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO IMPORTANT HOUSING LANDS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  (a)  The Hawaii public housing authority shall conduct a study recommending certain state-owned lands that are located within a one half-mile radius of any rail mass transit station, excluding lands under the jurisdiction of the department of Hawaiian home lands, that are most suitable for constructing at least one hundred thousand units of housing. 

     (b)  The Hawaii public housing authority shall submit a written report of its findings and recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2024. 

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $500,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2023-2024 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2024-2025 for the Hawaii public housing authority to conduct the study, or contract services to conduct the study, required by section 1 of this Act.

     The sums appropriated shall be expended by the Hawaii public housing authority for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
