HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

Requesting the Department of Health and the Hawaii Medical Board adopt rules requiring abortion clinics to provide Ultrasounds to the mother before performing an abortion for the health and well-being of the mother.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, ultrasounds are convenient, painless, yield immediate, extensive results, and are widely considered to be safe; and

 

     WHEREAS, ultrasounds are needed to confirm you have a viable pregnancy; and

 

     WHEREAS, the type of abortion available to the mother is determined by the age of the fetus, and an ultrasound is required to determine that age; and

 

     WHEREAS, ultrasounds are important to check for pregnancy complications, including ectopic pregnancy, and molar pregnancy; and

 

WHEREAS, ectopic pregnancy is where a fetus is growing outside of the uterus and within the fallopian tube; and

 

     WHEREAS, fourteen states currently require ultrasounds before abortions, with six of those requiring the provider to display and describe the image; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2023, that the Department of Health and Hawaii Medical Board adopt rules for all providers of abortion services to provided ultrasounds to the mother before performing an abortion for the health and well-being of the mother; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of the Department of Health and the Hawaii Medical Board.
