A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO SCHOOLS.
BE IT
ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Section 302A-1132, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (d) to read as follows:
"(d) As used in this section, "private
school" means an educational institution that teaches students in any
grade from kindergarten through grade twelve and that is [licensed or
accredited] either:
(1) Licensed;
(2) Licensed and accredited
by the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools, Hawaii Council of Private
Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Western Catholic
Educational Association, Association of Christian Schools International, or a [similarly
recognized] similar entity recognized by the Hawaii Council of Private
Schools that meets or exceeds the standards set by the aforementioned entities[.];
or
(3) Accredited by the
Hawaii Association of Independent Schools, Hawaii Council of Private Schools,
Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Western Catholic Educational
Association, Association of Christian Schools International, or a similar entity
recognized by the Hawaii Council of Private Schools that meets or exceeds the
standards set by the aforementioned entities, and submits health and safety documentation
to the Hawaii Council of Private Schools on an annual basis."
SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
