Advocating for a Living Wage
Raise Up Hawaii and local construction unions invited Rep. Roy Takumi to speak at their
living wage rally today at the
Hawaii State Capitol. Rep. Takumi has always been a strong advocate for working families and for increasing Hawaii's minimum
wage, and he urged the crowd to make some noise and challenge law makers to do what's right by passing a minimum wage bill
before the end of the legislative session.

Rep. Roy Takumi Introduces Legislation to Protect Your First Amendment Rights
This legislative session, Rep. Roy Takumi introduced HB1591, which if passes, would affirm everyone's right to record law enforcement officers as long as they do not interfere with officers doing their job. This is important legislation considering recent acts of police violence, such as the murder of George Floyd.

Rep. Roy Takumi Advocates for Increasing the Minimum Wage
In Civil Beat's Community Voices, Rep. Roy Takumi points out that Hawaii has not seen a
raise in the minimum wage since 2014. Hawaii's minimum wage of $10.10 per hour
(or $21,000 a year) is the lowest in the nation (when adjusted for cost of living).
Increasing the minimum wage would raise the living standards of women, kupuna, Native
Hawaii and Pacific Islanders who disproportionately are in low-wage jobs. To read the

Rep. Roy Takumi Named to Serve as Vice-Chair of Education Commission of the States
State Representative Roy M. Takumi has been selected as Vice Chair of the Education Commission of the States (ECS) for 2015-2017. He will continue to be involved in developing and implementing a strategy to effectively engage states and ECS commissioners in its mission, and promoting ECS in Hawaii and across the nation.
"As chair for the House's Committee on Education, I hope to leverage my roles in the House and with the ECS to further education goals both locally and nationally," said Rep. Takumi.
