Representative Val Okimoto was elected to the state House of Representatives on November 6, 2018. She represents the residents of District 36 which includes Mililani Mauka, Mililani, and Waipi'o Acres. She currently serves on the Committees on Economic Development, Education, Higher Education & Technology and Labor & Tourism.

Representative Okimoto was born in Lihu'e, Kaua'i, was a scholar athlete, and graduated with honors from Kaua'i High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in accounting with a minor in business management with honors from Brigham Young University of Hawai'i, and obtained her special education teacher certification at Chaminade University of Honolulu. She also spent 18 months in Cebu, Philippines for a church service mission with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Prior to being elected to office, Representative Okimoto worked as a special education teacher at Makalapa Elementary School and Highlands Intermediate School.

She has been an active member of her community by serving as a Director and Treasurer of the Mililani Town Association (MTA), board member of the School Community Council (SCC) at Mililani 'Ike Elementary School, has served as Team Parent for Mililani American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), and served four years as the President of the local chapter of a woman's organization for her church.

Rep. Okimoto is a strong advocate for family values, her community and serving others. She has been a resident of Mililani for over 18 years, and loves the schools, the safe community, and extracurricular activities and opportunities for her daughters. In her free time, Representative Okimoto enjoys playing basketball, hiking, being outdoors and spending time with her daughters going to the beach and camping. She's grateful to call Mililani her home and strives to do all she can to build an even better future for the community she loves.
