RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Gives a preference to students who live within the service area of a school or who enrolled in the school the previous school year who apply for participation in a career and technical education program offered by that school.  Establishes enrollment in a career and technical education program as a new exception to the requirement to attend school within the service area in which a student resides.

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

Requires the department of education to establish and implement a sexual abuse prevention education program to educate public school students on sexual abuse prevention, provide relevant training to teachers and staff, and inform parents and guardians about important child sexual abuse topics.  Requires the board of education to adopt policies to effectuate the program.  Requires reports to the legislature.  Appropriates funds.

SB 805

      Status & Testimony

RELATING TO THE PRACTICE OF BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS.

Makes the exemption from the behavior analyst licensing requirements permanent for certain teachers working in collaboration with a licensed behavior analyst or licensed psychologist.  Clarifies exemptions from licensure as a behavioral analyst for general education teachers, direct support workers, special education teachers, and teacher trainees working in collaboration with or under the supervision of licensed professionals.  Exempts licensed special education teachers and individuals in approved and accredited special education training programs who are working toward licensure as special education teachers whose scope of practice and training includes applied behavior analysis.

RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOL LANDS.

Requires the attorney general of the State of Hawaii, on behalf of the Department of Education, to institute proceedings to acquire certain land owned by the Mililani Town Association by voluntary action or condemnation.

Requires the department of education to submit an annual report on the school academic and financial plans to the board of education and the legislature.

Requires the department of education to publish a weekly report on schools that have reported COVID-19 cases.

Requires the superintendent to serve as the summer learning coordinator and coordinate all summer programs for children.  Requires the summer learning coordinator to leverage certain federal funds for school-based summer programs.
