A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to public lands.
BE IT
ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The legislature finds that Hawaii's public lands hold significant value for the State's economy, ecosystem, and culture. Public lands provide both residents and visitors with recreational opportunities and support grazing areas, wildlife refuges, and forest conservation efforts.
Accordingly, the purpose of this Act is to establish the fourth Saturday in September as public lands day in recognition of the significant value and beneficial uses of the State's public lands.
SECTION 2. Chapter 8, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§8- Public
Lands Day. The fourth Saturday in September shall be known
and designated as "Public Lands Day" in recognition of the significant
value and beneficial uses of the State's public lands. This day is not and shall
not be construed to be a state holiday."
SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
