Your Committee on Energy & Environmental Protection, to which was referred S.C.R. No. 61, S.D. 1, entitled:
"SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING THE STATE'S COMMITMENT TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE AND PRIORITIZE CLIMATE CHANGE LEGISLATION,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to reaffirm the State's commitment to combat climate change and prioritize climate change legislation.
Your Committee
received testimony in support of this measure from the Department of Land and
Natural Resources, Office of Planning, Environmental Caucus of the Democratic
Party of Hawai‘i,
Clean the Pacific, Climate Protectors Hawaii, and four individuals. Your Committee received comments on this
measure from the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency.
Your Committee finds that the State is
particularly vulnerable to natural disasters exacerbated by climate change. This measure highlights the State's commitment
to mitigate the effects of climate change in the State, achieve its clean
energy goals, properly resource conservation and ecological restoration
efforts, and increase awareness of the climate crisis.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Energy & Environmental Protection that is attached to this report, your Committee concurs with the intent and purpose of S.C.R. No. 61, S.D. 1, and recommends that it be referred to your Committee on Judiciary & Hawaiian Affairs.
