RELATING TO EDUCATION. Establishes a pilot safe space program within the alternative learning center program in the department of education to support students by providing twenty-four hours per day seven days per week access to emergency crisis services. Makes an appropriation. (SD2)

RELATING TO SERVICE-LEARNING. Requires the Department of Education to implement a service-learning curriculum to develop student character, values, self-esteem, civic responsibility, and knowledge of local community issues and concerns though community service volunteer work. Effective 7/1/2050. (SD2)

RELATING TO THE HAWAII TEACHER STANDARDS BOARD. Amends the powers and duties of the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board to authorize the issuance of certificates for teachers at private schools. (SD1)

RELATING TO EDUCATION. Broadens the purposes for which indirect costs incurred by the Department of Education, State Public Charter School Commission, or a charter authorizer from federal grants may be reimbursed. Effective 7/1/2050. (SD2)

Persons wishing to offer comments should submit testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. Testimony should indicate:
· Testifier's name with position/title and organization;
· The Committee(s) to which the comments are directed;
· The date and time of the hearing; and
· Measure number.
While every effort will be made to incorporate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

Testimony submitted will be placed on the legislative website. This public posting of testimony on the website should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
