RELATING TO FILIPINO VETERANS BURIAL ASSISTANCE.

Appropriates funds for burial grants for qualifying Filipino-American World War II veterans to provide funeral and burial services and transportation of their remains to the Philippines.  Requires funds for burial grants to not lapse to the general fund and remain available as needed.  Effective 7/1/2050.  (SD2)

RELATING TO DISASTER PREPAREDNESS.

Prohibits the planting of large trees along evacuation routes and requires the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency to identify large trees along evacuation routes and trim, spray, or remove large trees if the trees have the potential to obstruct the evacuation route.  Defines evacuation route.  Appropriates funds.  Takes effect 7/1/2050.  (SD1)

RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY.

Appropriates funds and authorizes staff positions for the Women's Community Correctional Center Hookipa Makai Cottage.  Appropriates funds for additional housing and transportation costs of certain inmates sent to Saguaro Correctional Center in Arizona.  Effective 7/1/2050.  (SD1)

Status

RELATING TO HAWAII STATE AND CONTRACTED CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES.

Requires the Director of Public Safety, in the event of any death of an inmate who is in a state or contracted correctional facility or correctional facility or community correctional center employee, to provide a report to the Governor, and the Governor report to the Legislature, with certain information regarding the death.  Authorizes Director to withhold disclosure of decedent's name under specific conditions.  (SD1)

RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT.

Specifies that law enforcement officers have the discretion to issue citations, in lieu of making an arrest, for non-violent class C felonies, misdemeanors, petty misdemeanors, and violations.

RELATING TO PAYMENT OF BAIL.

Permits defendants for whom a monetary amount of bail has been set to pay the bail amount on a twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week basis and be released from custody forthwith upon posting or payment of bail.

While every effort will be made to incorporate all testimony received, materials received on the day of the hearing or improperly identified or directed, may be distributed to the Committee after the hearing.

Testimony submitted will be placed on the legislative website.  This public posting of testimony on the website should be considered when including personal information in your testimony.
