A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to motor vehicles.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 249, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§249- Importation
fee. (a) All motor vehicles imported to the State
shall be subjected to a $10 motor vehicle importation fee. The fee shall be paid to the director of finance
of the county that is the final destination of the motor vehicle. For the purposes of this section:
"Final destination"
means the county where the motor vehicle will be primarily used.
"Imported" means shipped
to the State from any point outside of the State.
(b) The fees collected in this section shall be
expended in the county in which the fees are collected for the purpose of
disposing abandoned vehicles pursuant to chapter 290."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
