Suicide is a major world health concern claiming approximately 1 million lives across the globe per year.  In Hawai‘i, suicide was the most common cause of fatal injuries among Hawai‘i residents between 2010-14, accounting for on-quarter of all fatal injuries.  One person dies by suicide in Hawai‘i every two days. 

In recognition of National Suicide Prevention week and coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10, 2015), the legislature will be hearing from those who work to educate and help prevent suicides, as well as those directly affected by it, in the hopes of providing information to the public about this major health concern.  The presentations will also include information about local resources for those who are in need or know of someone who might be.

The following organizations and individuals have been invited to participate in this briefing:
