From 2009-2014, Hawaii P-20 Partnerships for Education began work aligning expectations and outcomes for children from Pre-K to Third Grade (P-3), with the goal that every child would read at grade level by third grade. To that end, five demonstration sites were set up in Nanakuli-Waianae, Farrington, Honoka’a, Windward Oahu, and Ka’u-Kea’au-Pahoa complex areas that brought together early childhood education providers and elementary schools to align the pathway to education for all children in these complexes.
The purpose of the information briefing is to hear from the RAND Corporation, the external evaluator for the P-3 Initiative, who will be reporting on the outcomes of this effort. We will also hear from educators from three complexes: Nanakuli-Waianae, Windward, and Farrington.
Hawai‘i P-20 Partnerships for Education is a statewide collaboration led by the Executive Office on Early Learning, Hawai‘i Department of Education and the University of Hawai‘i System with the goal of improving educational outcomes for Hawai‘i.
The RAND Corporation, based in Los Angeles, is a research organization that develops solutions to public policy challenges to help make communities throughout the world safer and more secure, healthier and more prosperous. RAND is nonprofit, nonpartisan, and committed to the public interest.
No public testimony will be accepted.
If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids and/or services to participate in the informational briefing (i.e., sign language interpreter or wheelchair accessibility), please contact the Committee Clerk at 586-6170 to make a request for arrangements at least 24 hours prior to the briefing. Prompt requests help to ensure the availability of qualified individuals and appropriate accommodations.
