Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred S.B.
No. 551, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, entitled:
"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO A MEMORIAL,"
begs leave to report as follows:
The purpose of this measure is to
recognize the sacrifices and contributions of veterans from Hawaii who served
in the Persian Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom,
Operation New Dawn, Operation Enduring Freedom, the Global War on Terrorism,
Homeland Defense, and Operation Noble Eagle, as well as those who have
protected our borders by land, sea, and air by directing the Office of Veterans
Services, with the assistance of the Department of Accounting and General
Services, State Department of Defense, and the State Historic Preservation
Division, to develop plans to establish a memorial honoring the veterans of
these campaigns.
The Office of Veterans Services and
two concerned individuals testified in support of this measure. The Department
of Accounting and General Services and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of
Hawaii commented on this measure.
As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of
your Committee on Finance that is attached to this report, your Committee is in
accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 551, S.D. 2, H.D. 1, and
recommends that it pass Third Reading.
