Senator Norman Sakamoto currently serves as Majority Floor Leader and chairs the Education and Housing committee. He also sits as a member on the Higher Education and Commerce and Consumer Protection committees.

Senator Sakamoto represents Hawaii's 15th Senatorial District and has served in the Hawaii State Senate since 1996.

Born on May 22, 1947, Senator Sakamoto and his wife, Penny, have three children: David, Greg, and Katherine. Senator Sakamoto is a graduate from the University Lab School and received a BS from the University of Hawaii in 1969. He continued his education receiving his MS from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1970.
