Senator Fred Hemmings currently serves as Minority Leader. He also sits as a member on the Commerce and Consumer Protection, Education and Housing, Energy and Environment, Health, Human Services, Public Safety and Military Affairs, Water, Land, Agriculture, and Hawaiian Affairs, and Ways and Means committees.

Senator Hemmings represents Hawaii's 25th Senatorial District and has served in the Hawaii State Senate since 2000. Hemmings represented Kailua, Lanikai, Waimanalo, and Hawaii Kai communities as a State Representative from 1984 to 1990.

Born on January 9, 1946, Senator Hemmings is also known as a world class surfer and expert waterman. He attended Punahou School where he is an inductee of the Punahou School Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1991, Hemmings was inducted into the International Surfing Hall of Fame, and in 1999 the Hawaii State Sports Hall of Fame.
