City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management Update on the Kamehameha Highway Closure
The City will reopen Kamehameha Highway at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2011.
After that, the contractors will be allowed to continue work daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; during this time only one lane will be open with alternating traffic flow.
Every day from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. the contractor will be required to open up both lanes of Kam Hwy.
TheBus will continue to reroute the Route 55; the Route 65 will continue to service the area, but that will keep buses to a minimum while servicing the area.
Buses will no longer use Lulani Street as a bypass.
The piece of rock wall has been removed and the contractors are making great progress to clear the site.
The City added more signs at Kam Hwy before Haiku Road and at Kahekili/Kam Hwy. This will hopefully continue to minimize through traffic. The City thanks residents of Lulani Street and neighboring areas for their continued patience and understanding.
If you have any questions, concerns, or recommendations please call Mr. Peter Hirai, Deputy Director of Emergency Management, at 723-8952 or e-mail phirai@honolulu.gov.

City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management Update on the Kamehameha Highway Closure
The piece of rock wall and the mud underneath are the primary concerns. Either are hazardous to motorists.
The City will open the highway once the wall and mud are mitigated.
The City continues to work with the homeowner and his property manager; they understand that they are the reason the highway is closed.
The Bus has agreed to reroute all but one route; that means they can continue to service the area, but will minimize the amount of buses that come through Lulani Street and Kamehameha Highway.
The City will be improving the signage at Kam Hwy/ Haiku Road and at Kahekili/Kam Hwy. This will hopefully minimize through traffic.
We will ask HPD to monitor the area for speeding.
We will update you again at the end of the week or if any significant progress is made.
