Pono Chong has completed 3 terms as the Windward Oahu Representative for House District 49, which encompasses Maunawili, Olomana, Enchanted Lake, and Kaneohe. Representative Chong is well-versed in State fiscal matters, and was actively involved closing the gap of a $2 billion State budget shortfall without raising the general excise tax, and protecting critical services for the elderly, disabled and children.

Protecting Windward Oahu from large-scale development, Representative Chong has worked to ensure that any suggested development has community input. He has opposed certain large developments such as building on conservation land in Kaneohe.
