Representative Corinne Wei Lan Ching, born and raised in Hawaii, a Daughter of Hawaii is a former ESL teacher at the Ma'ema'e School. A graduate of Punahou School, she received a Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Hawaii with a certificate in Ethnic Studies and a focus on leadership. She is known for her advocacy of heritage tourism and is the Founder of the Hawaii Heritage Caucus focusing on historic preservation; she started the first ever "Historic Preservation Awareness Day" at the Capitol.
She has created publications which include the "I Love Liliha Booklet" and "Our Liliha," a Pele-Award, National and International, award winning Calendar. Representative Corinne Ching spearheads the Revitalization of Liliha Historic Town and is repositioning it as a tourist destination based on its historical, multicultural, "local" culture. Through her work with HUD and the community, it has been selected as a design project by the University Of Hawaii School Of Architecture.
She leads initiatives such as cacao, a diversified agricultural product, to preserve open space and increase revenue as Hawaii is the only state in the Nation that is able to grow it. She is also spearheading the "Green Anthurium Project" to address the diabetes epidemic in Hawaii.
In addition to her legislative duties, Representative Ching has also founded and organizes to this day the Liliha Town Festival, the Liliha-Nuuanu Candlelight Tour, Liliha Gingerbread Festival, and other community events that focus on the revitalization of Liliha-Nuuanu, which has been proposed by Congress as a National Heritage Area.
