STAND. COM. REP. NO. 3653

Honolulu, Hawaii

RE:    GOV. MSG. NO. 565

Honorable Colleen Hanabusa

President of the Senate

Twenty-Fourth State Legislature

Regular Session of 2008

State of Hawaii

Madam:

Your Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, and Affordable Housing, to which was referred Governor's Message No. 565, submitting for study and consideration the nomination of:

Contractors License Board

G.M. No. 565

DARYL S. SUEHIRO,

for a term to expire 6-30-2012,

begs leave to report as follows:

Your Committee reviewed the personal history, resume, and statement submitted by the nominee, and finds Daryl S. Suehiro to have the necessary qualifications to be nominated to the Contractors License Board.

Testimony in support of Mr. Suehiro's nomination was submitted by the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, the Electrical Contractor's Association of Hawaii, and one private individual.

Mr. Suehiro currently operates and owns an electrical contracting business, D. Suehiro, Inc., which he started with his family in 1988.  He and his family strive to provide the best service and highest quality to their clients.  He currently serves as the President-Elect of the Board of Directors of the Electrical Contractor's Association of Hawaii for 2008, and previously served as its Vice President in 2006 and 2007.  He has also served as a Trustee for the three Hawaii Electricians Trust Funds for over four years.

Mr. Suehiro wishes to give back to the community and share the expertise that he has developed working in the industry.  He believes that a contractors license is the forefront of consumer protection and understands the importance and priorities of the Board.  He is also focused on what will be beneficial for the construction industry as a whole, rather than being driven by the needs of only the electrical contracting industry.  Mr. Suehiro's demonstrated commitment, motivation, electrical contracting background, and professional experiences will greatly assist the Contractors License Board.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, and Affordable Housing that is attached to this report, your Committee, after full consideration of the background, experience, and qualifications of the nominee, has found the nominee to be qualified for the position to which nominated and recommends that the Senate advise and consent to the nomination.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, and Affordable Housing,
