HOUSE RESOLUTION
recognizing clifford hashimoto's promotion to ali'i nui and grand master of the royal order of kamehameha i.
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii is proud to recognize individuals who share in the leadership of their culture and are devoted to making a difference in the Native Hawaiian community; and
WHEREAS, the Royal Order of Kamehameha I was established in 1865 by Lot Kapuaiwa, His Majesty King Kamehameha V, to honor the legacy of his grandfather Kamehameha the Great for uniting all of the Hawaiian islands, and to defend the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, today, the purpose of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I is to unite men of Hawaiian descent, who are in good health and possess a high moral character, in fraternal and benevolent work to improve the social and moral conditions of its members; provide scholarship assistance; preserve and perpetuate the ancient culture, customs, and traditions of Hawaii; uplift the Hawaiian people; and encourage and develop leadership; and
WHEREAS, born and raised in Hana, Maui, CLIFFORD HASHIMOTO graduated from the Kamehameha Schools in 1953, is married to his beloved wife Evelyn Ululani, and is a retired First Lieutenant of the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, CLIFFORD HASHIMOTO, the Ali'i 'ai Moku O
Kahekili of Maui, hopes to unify all of his Hawaiian brothers in support of the
Native Hawaiian community's quest for self-determination; and
WHEREAS, at the 2004 Papa Ali'i annual convention in Kailua-Kona at the
Ohana Keauhou Hotel on the island of Hawaii, CLIFFORD HASHIMOTO was promoted to
Ali'i Nui and Grand Master of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, that this body hereby recognizes and honors the promotion of CLIFFORD HASHIMOTO to Ali'i Nui and Grand Master of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, and extends to him its warmest aloha, congratulations, and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
