HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting that maluhia, in concert with leahi hospital, initiate master planning activities to upgrade its facilities and collaborate with other long-term care providers to address hawaii's increasing elderLY and chronically ill populations.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Maluhia facility, which was established in 1923 and provides long term-care inpatient services and services for the elderly, has a history of responding to Hawaii's elderly and chronically ill populations; and

 

     WHEREAS, there persists a lack of the availability of long-term care alternatives that are accessible, affordable, and comprehensive; and

 

     WHEREAS, along with Leahi Hospital, another Oahu regional facility, Maluhia has embarked on revisiting its mission and vision as a first step to updating its master plan; and

 

     WHEREAS, both facilities continue to deal with and prepare for the challenges of existing fiscal constraints and emerging, new payment schemes for long-term care institutions and services; and

 

     WHEREAS, Leahi Hospital is planning to undertake a master planning effort for its campus; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2008, the Senate concurring, that the Legislature supports Maluhia's efforts to work with Leahi Hospital to establish a coordinated master planning effort to provide innovative long-term care services; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that as a result of these master planning efforts, the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation is requested to pursue any needed resources during the Regular Session of 2009; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chief Executive Officer of the Oahu Region, the Administrator of Maluhia, the President of the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, and the Director of Health.
