SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the department of education to establish a temporary location for the manoa public library to accommodate the community and students during the library's two-year closure.
WHEREAS, the Manoa Public Library will be closed for renovation work for a period of two years; and
WHEREAS, the Manoa Public Library is of great value to the public and particularly to the Manoa community; and
WHEREAS, the Manoa Public Library is used frequently by the students of neighboring Noelani Elementary School and Manoa Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, with the two-year closure of Manoa Public Library, there will be no reasonable alternative library in the vicinity, which will be detrimental to the students and the elderly that depend on Manoa Public Library; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Department of Education is requested to establish a temporary location for the Manoa Public Library to accommodate the students and community during the library's two-year closure for renovations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Education is requested to first consider providing two portable classrooms to be located at Noelani Elementary School to serve as the library's temporary location; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, the Superintendent of Education, the principal of Noelani Elementary School, the principal of Manoa Elementary School, and the head librarian of the Manoa Public Library.
