A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to government operations.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

     SECTION 1.  Section 78-29, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:

     "(b)  The programs may provide for cash awards to recognize suggestions, inventions, superior accomplishments, length of service, and other personal or group efforts.  A cash award shall be in addition to the employee's regular compensation.  The acceptance of a cash award shall constitute an agreement that use by the government of any idea, method, or device for which the award is made shall not form the basis of a further claim upon the government by the [employees] employee or the [employees'] employee's heirs and assigns."

     SECTION 2.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
