HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

HONORING AND CONGRATULATING THE IOLANI SCHOOL GIRLS’ WRESTLING TEAM ON becoming THE 2005 HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CHAMPION.

 

 

WHEREAS, participation in student athletic competition, a fundamental component of the physical, mental, and emotional development of our youth, instills the essence of perseverance, fellowship, and good sportsmanship into the character of Hawaii's future leaders; and

WHEREAS, the IOLANI SCHOOL GIRLS’ WRESTLING TEAM experienced a historic and exemplary season by winning their first-ever Hawaii High School Athletic Association Girls’ Wrestling Championship, bestowing great pride upon their entire school, including its students, faculty, and administration; and

WHEREAS, by bonding together to support and assist one another throughout the entire season, the IOLANI SCHOOL GIRLS’ WRESTLING TEAM, while competing against the very best wrestlers throughout the State of Hawaii, displayed the teamwork and united effort that epitomizes a true "Team" philosophy; and

WHEREAS, the IOLANI SCHOOL GIRLS’ WRESTLING TEAM, which only had two girls in their wrestling program four years ago and four wrestlers three years ago, exemplified a true "Team Victory" as they edged the second place finishing team by one point, 130.5 to 129.5, to become the 2005 Hawaii High School Athletic Association Champion; and

WHEREAS, the fine qualities found in this team were skillfully mentored and guided by an extremely dedicated coaching staff which included Program Director, Yoshi Honda, Head Girls’ Varsity Coach, Matt Ha, and Coach, Jill Remiticado; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-third Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2005, that this body hereby honors and congratulates the superb efforts and contributions of the 2005 IOLANI SCHOOL GIRLS’ WRESTLING TEAM which includes Kira Tamashiro, Joleen Oshiro, Brandee Toyama, Catherine Chan, Carla Watase, Akemi Holmes, Courtney Whang, Sridevi Fournier, and Lindsey Tufono on winning the 2005 Hawaii High School Athletic Association Girls’ Wrestling State Championship, and extends to them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
