RESOLUTION
requesting the governor to delay plans to construct new living quarters at washington place.
WHEREAS, Washington Place is arguably the oldest and grandest residence in all of Honolulu; and
WHEREAS, the house has been a home to an American commissioner, 12 governors and their wives, and a countless number of children; and
WHEREAS, Washington Place's most famous resident, however, was Queen Liliuokalani; and
WHEREAS, she would live there for a total of 55 years, first as an heir to the throne, then as a political prisoner of a new republic and later citizen of a U.S. territory; and
WHEREAS, the Governor has proposed constructing a new living quarters adjacent to Washington Place; and
WHEREAS, the Governor's term will be over within a year;
and
WHEREAS, a new governor will take his place and be left with the current Governor's construction plans for Washington Place; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-First Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Governor is requested to delay plans to construct the new living quarters until the new governor is elected; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
