SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

requesting the department of business, economic development, and tourism, High Technology Development Corporation, Hawaii Technology Trade Association, and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority to set the direction for the high technology industry.

 

WHEREAS, the recent events of September 11, 2001, have again proven that the State's economy is heavily dependent on the tourism industry; and

WHEREAS, technology-based economic development is important to shifting the economic structure of the State and is the fastest growing segment of the economy, steadily producing new jobs and revenue; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the High Technology Development Corporation, Hawaii

Technology Trade Association, and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority all support the growth and development of the high technology industry; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-First Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the High Technology Development Corporation, Hawaii Technology Trade Association, and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority shall set the direction for Hawaii's high technology industry; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the High Technology Development Corporation, Hawaii Technology Trade Association, and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority shall come together and develop a plan that executes the industry's decided direction; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the High Technology Development Corporation, Hawaii Technology Trade Association, and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority shall submit a report detailing a high technology directional plan to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2003; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the High Technology Development Corporation, Hawaii Technology Trade Association, and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority.
