A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to health care providers.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 453, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§453- Defaulted health care providers. The board of medical examiners shall suspend or revoke the license of, shall deny a license to, or may take other disciplinary action against, any individual who has defaulted on a repayment or service obligation under any federal or state educational loan or service conditional scholarship program. The board shall defer to the federal or state loan or scholarship program's determination of default, and shall remove the suspension, grant the license, or stay the revocation or other disciplinary action taken, if the federal or state program certifies that the defaulter has agreed to serve the obligation or is complying with an approved repayment plan. The board shall reinstate the sanctions if the defaulter fails to comply with any subsequent payment or service obligations."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
