A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to high school diplomas.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The board of education, by policy, shall adopt criteria and guidelines allowing the superintendent of education to award a high school diploma to honorably discharged veterans who started high school between 1937 and 1946 and were scheduled to graduate between 1941 and 1950 but were inducted into the United States armed forces between September 16, 1940, and December 31, 1946, prior to completing the necessary high school graduation requirements. The criteria and guidelines shall be adopted by, and shall take effect on, Monday, November 11, 2002, to coincide with Veterans' Day.
SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
