RECOGNIZING THE FIFTIETH ANNUAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL AND CONGRATULATING LISA AKIKO LOKELANI OKINAGA AS THE 2002 CHERRY BLOSSOM QUEEN, MEMBERS OF HER COURT, AND FESTIVAL ORGANIZERS.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 30, 2002, LISA AKIKO LOKELANI OKINAGA was chosen as the 2002 Cherry Blossom Queen of the Fiftieth Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, sponsored by the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, a 1994 graduate of The Kamehameha Schools, LISA AKIKO LOKELANI OKINAGA received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Loyola Marymount University, is pursuing her master’s degree in business administration at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and currently works at Tripler Army Medical Center as a business team leader; and
WHEREAS, LISA AKIKO LOKELANI OKINAGA possesses the timeless yet fragile beauty of the cherry blossom, appreciates the values of her culture, serves to honor her parents, and respects her heritage; and
WHEREAS, Queen LISA AKIKO LOKELANI OKINAGA is honored to have as members of her court, First Princess Katie Matsuko Young, Princesses Michelle Aki Nakata and Charlene Kaoru Sakuma, Princess and Miss Popularity Nina Masami Hashimoto, and Miss Congeniality Nicole Rae Kuwahara; and
WHEREAS, the Cherry Blossom Festival, one of the oldest, non-interrupted ethnic celebrations in Hawaii, serves to illuminate, enlighten, and enrich various aspects of Japanese culture and culminates in the coronation of the Queen and her Court, and was successfully guided by the Fifty-second Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce President Robb Taone and the Fiftieth Cherry Blossom Festival General Chair Sharene Urakami; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, that this body hereby recognizes the Fiftieth Annual Cherry Blossom Festival, congratulates LISA AKIKO LOKELANI OKINAGA as the 2002 Cherry Blossom Queen, members of her Court, other contestants of achieved distinctions, and the Festival organizers, and extends to all of them its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
